Some Conventional Examples to Explain the Processing Process of Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is widely used, and there are many examples of machining. Only a few examples of turning operations are given here for reference.
1. Turning:
The workpiece material is 1Cr18Ni9Ti and the workpiece size is Ø900 mm×720 mm. Started to use YG8 carbide turning tool, tool geometry g0=15°~18°, a0=6°~8°, kr=75°, ls=-5°~-8°; The amount of cutting is Vc = 28 m / min, ap = 0.3 ~ 0.5 mm, f = 0.16 mm / r. After finishing the lathe, the s tool needs to be sharpened for 28 times, and the surface marks on the workpiece surface are very obvious. After changing to the YG8N carbide turning tool, the other conditions are the same except that the cutting speed is increased to 42.4 m/min. After turning the outer circle of the knife, it only needs to be sharpened 5 times. The surface roughness Ra of the workpiece was 3.2 μm, and the blade marks were not obvious.

2. Turning thread:
The workpiece material is 1Cr18Ni9Ti and the thread size is M20×2.5. Start using YG8 carbide tool, Vc=10 m/min, f=2.5 mm/r, ap=0.3-0.4 mm, the tool is sharpened once and cannot process one product. By using 813 carbide tool, it can process more than two pieces under Vc=36 m/min, and the efficiency and tool durability can be more than doubled.

3. Milling:
The workpiece material is Cr17Ni2, milling plane, cutting amount is Vc=90-100 m/min, ap=3~4 mm, af=0.15 mm/z. The tool is an indexable end mill, the tool material is YW4, the tool geometry is g0=5°, a0=8°, kr=75°, ls=5°. Tool durability is 41 min.

4. Bore Hole:
The workpiece material is 1Cr18Ni9Ti, and the tool material is YG6 and YG10H cemented carbide. The tool geometry parameters are g0=20°, a0=8°, kr=75°, ls=-3°. The amount of cutting is Vc = 20 m / min, ap = 3 mm, f = 0.32 mm / r. Under the same conditions, YG6 has a tool durability of 15 min, no chip breaking, and sticking to the knife. The YG10H has a tool durability of 60 min and good cutting quality.
